A time lapse works by setting up some recording equipment or a camera and setting it to shoot every 4 odd seconds, or 30 seconds, or 30 hours, depending on what your capturing and where and how fast/slow/action packed you want it to be.
Koyaanisqatsi People is a film by Godfrey Reggio, most of the film is Time Lapse's of lots of major cities and popular destinations. There are no words or speech in the movie because the movie and juxtaposition of the timelapse scenes and people in the shot, they are not needed because the cinematography tells the story.
Zoo: A Zed And Two Noughts
Is a film about two twins who were joined, who fall in love with a girl, then she dies, and to cope with her death, the two brothers because obsessed with capturing decaying subjects via time lapse.
Setting up a time lapse
Generally, when setting up your time lapse, you want roughly 24-30 frames per second, you need to do some quick maths before you begin. You want 24 frames per second, times by how long you think the end result will last, so lets say 13 seconds, 24 x 13 = 312, next we have to work out at what interval to take photographs, so then we estimate how long the actual event we are covering will last, say 1 hour, thats 3600 seconds, so you divide 3600 by 312, which gives you 11.53, and that is the interval at which you must take a photograph, every 11.53. This should ensure you get a smooth rate on your animation when it is put together .

Cut Out Animation
Cut Out Animation
Cut out animation in a form of animation using paper, stiff fabric or any flat material, it is animated on a flat surface. It uses a different cut-out for almost every joint in the character, with a cut out background.
The Adventures Of Prince Achmed
The Adventures Of Prince Achmed is a 1926 German fairy-tale, using cut out animation by Lotte Reiniger. It is dont using silhouettes this is useful because you can cover up holes, and it make the models you create look more smooth and like one joined thing. She also animated it using frame by frame pictures, rather than live a live action animation, like puppets.
RiRi
RiRi is a 2007 independent japanese animation by Miyuki Hosotani, it is very artistic and the scenes are aesthetically nice.
This is very artistic and detailed compared to Lotte's animation. Which has very little detail because all of the models are silhouettes, however the style of animation is the same.
My Cut Out Animation
For our animation we will have a girl sat on a plane moving her leg, but she will have a dogs head that turns to the left and back.
These are the cut-outs we will use.
My finished project

Model Based Animation
Model based animation is animation done with the use of models, for example clay.
You model the clay to a shape of your liking and make a scene out off it.
Wallace & Gromit
Perhaps the most famous model animation is Wallace & Gromit, it is well known classic clay animation, there are over 100s of different pieces modelled and kept then changed during the shooting,
for the making of the movie, there was 43 Gromits, and required the use of 2.8 tonnes of plastercine.

This is my animation, i chose to re-enact Godzilla.
Usually before making your own Clay animation, you need to plan your story, and once you have decided on your story, you begin to create your models, making them as skillfully and detailed as possible, then you find the correct camera angle to best show your shot, for example i shot in the angle that didn't show the wires holding up my Godzilla model.

Pixelation first video
I used the program 'IStopMotion' in all, the video took us about 20 minutes to make.
Size = 4x3
Frame Rate = 12 frames per second
Exported = DV-PAL
We have uploaded the video to youtube and i have embedded it here.
Overall i think our animation was a success; however i think a better version could
be made with more time, and maybe a better setting, without people moving in the background of the shot.

George Melies was the pioneer of special effects.
His most famous movie was 'Trip to the moon' in which he used cut outs to create worlds he used in his scenes, because it was so expensive to film, he made his own scene backgrounds and featured in his own movies.

What is Persistence Of Vision
Persistence of vision is a collection of pictures moved fast, when the images are moved fast, the brain is tricked into thinking they are somehow connected, his make the images seem moving to your eyes.
Zoetrope -
The zoetrope is a mechanism made out off a hollow inside circle, when you spin the wheel, and look through the slits it creates an illusion of animation. The slits on the side stop the image from blurring whilst spinning, because the images are spinning so fast, it confuses the brain into thinking that the images are connected, making the brain link them together.
